Active Health Promotion Projects in Philippines

While conducting research for my own health promotion project, I came across some very simple, yet effective and innovative health promotion projects currently being done through various programs associated with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

I thought I would share a few links here as further resources and brainstorming ideas related to this concept:

My personal favorite***  A Healthier Ride with Tricycle Drivers.  A health promotion plan that trained tricycle drivers in basic health education and armed them with information to give to their passengers.  Several of these drivers also became volunteers to take pregnant and postpartum women to healthcare appoinments.  I really liked this because it involves men in women's health issues, promotes respect for women among men and changes unhealthy cultural norms from within the community.

Community Theater Reaches Thousands of Filipinos with Family Health Messages:  An article discussing how using local volunteers to put on an amusing an interactive play regarding family health was well received and helped decrease stigmas associated with family planning.

USAIDS HealthPro Completes First Year of "Journey to a Healthy Lifestyle" Bus Tour.  An innovative "healthcare bus" that travels to communities and dispenses health information through interactive dialog, games, classes, counseling, storytelling and entertainment.
